Corporate Connection (2003) is now part of my blog, and not only on Flickr. You are welcome to visit it, interact with it, and leave some comments too.
With the help of MapLib, I was able to mash my image with the technology of Google Maps. But this is only semi-interactive.
Lately I’ve started to think about the next version of this creation. I believe (and hope) its going to be very interesting and not so far from now.

Since iTunes 7 went to the public, mashed up with Cover Flow, I’ve been obsessed with finding the covers to most of my albums. It actually started to annoy me when I didn’t have the covers.
The biggest problems is the collection of mashup tracks that I’ve got. I don’t know how I got them but some of them are really good (Radiohead with Sneaker Pimps for example). And for the most of them, I don’t know who created them.
So I decided to group them all together and create a logo and album cover to clarify that these are mashups.
The logo was inspired by iTunes symbols for Shuffle and Repeat.
During the design process, I had the vain idea that it will become the international recognised symbol for mashups. Yes, Recognised all over the world for what it is.
So in order to help me achieve it, and organize your library - you can download, use and share it if you like. Oh, and mash as well.

‘Abstractions‘, ‘Photoelectric’, and ‘Fast Life and Dematerialized‘, were born from a feeling of sudden realization of the beauty embedded in everyday life.Going around with a camera, be it a film, digital or mobile phone camera, whilst having the ability to photograph everything and everywhere, made me more attentive to the world around me, especially to small and everyday objects.
When I was paying a close attention, everyday objects suddenly appeared to me new, unusual and even in an abstract form. The beauty I felt to revealed absorbed my attention, carried me away and evoked the desire to share this special experience.
Implementation of the long exposure technique on objects and people in movement produced a result which coordinated with my perception of reality – the city in a constant movement, the people who are in a constant hurry to achieve ‘the next thing’. In the theatre of fast city life, the settings and the surroundings stay in the same place, preserved throughout the historic periods, while the people always move, never stop in the same place and vanish into oblivion. I wanted to stop in the midst of this never-ending process and freeze that special moment, to capture the everlasting movement in a single moment in time.
Most of these pictures were taken without arrangement or plan, but were born out of a sudden urge to capture a different view of the everyday life and objects.

Last night we went to New York to eat sushi. Yes, just for the sushi. The train (NJ Transit) was free for a week for students and yesterday was the last day. So we packed our things and hopped to New York. The sushi and the maki were great and cheap (like it should be for students). I will do it again.
This shot was taken outside Penn Station and was edited via Adobe Lightroom (I’m still thrilled by the capabilities of this software). (link).

I‘ve been working on my website lately.
It’s about time that I’ll have some kind of an online portfolio.
The truth is, I’ve been lazy. Or more accurately: I started doing it, and than I stopped, But now I started again from the beginning.
It’s a long hard job doing it and I’ve been working on it for long hours each day.
A helpful hint for building your website: There is basic coding to be done (HTML) but all the rest of the stuff (javascipt, php, etc.) have been written already by someone. So the main thing to be done is to go and search for those things.
One good library for all good functional stuff is jQuery. If you want your website to be a bit more animated, a bit more flexible and a lot more dramatic.
Another one which is much more known is script.aculo.us. This library is dealing more with sortable menues and easy-to-use shopping carts, but you can find your own use for it.

Anagram map of London Underground

About a week ago Boing Boing posted on a map of the London Uunderground where the station names where anagramed.
Then came the sad post that Transport for London censored the map, as it breaches copyright. Instead of the original map the page now reads: “Content removed at the request of Healeys Solicitors acting on behalf of Transport for London and Transport Trading Ltd.”
And then came the solidarity movement…
It started with Robot Johnny who produced an inspired version that remixes the Toronto Transit Commission’s subway map with anagrammed station-names”.

Then came remixed versions of the Amsterdam Metro and the Metra Map of Chicago.
The other day Boing Boing added a list of maps from around the world that influenced by the original censored version.

The Precision Blogger decided to make a really unorthodox version of the Subway map of New York, and maps of Atlanta, Boston, and Oslo.
Then came the anagramed U-Bahn of Vienna, the “DC Metro map anagram mix“, Stockholm, Los-Angeles, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Baltimore.
Then the first and the second booms arrived and the remixes of Calgary, Vancouver, Philadelphia, buffalo, Hong Kong, Seattle, Minneapolis and Detroit, together with Miami, Dublin, Ontario, Dallas, Galsgow, Portland, OR, Ottawa amd Houston appeared online.

The never ending story also brought the maps of Montreal, Helsinky, Monterrey and San Diego.
Last, but I’m sure that not for long time, joined the NY/NJ Path and Sidney.
Thus the story ends with 2 outlawed anagrams and over 30 different anagram-maps from different cities of the world. I reckon this is a marvellous demonstration of the power of solidarity on the web. I believe the ideals of copyright should change, especially when they concern art. No money making scheme was in any of these maps and the whole concept is made with humour. I think that the executives of TFL should learn something about humour as well as about creativity.
And now, the first manifestation of the change in the minds of executives. This is what Adam Livingstone, a producer of BBC’s Newsnight wrote yesterday:
First though, an apology. File sharing is not theft. It has never been theft. Anyone who says it is theft is wrong and has unthinkingly absorbed too many Recording Industry Association of America press releases. We know that script line was wrong. It was a mistake. We’re very, very sorry.
If copyright infringement was theft then I’d be in jail every time I accidentally used football pix on Newsnight without putting “Pictures from Sky Sport” in the top left corner of the screen. And I’m not. So it isn’t. So you can stop telling us if you like. We hear you.
Stop with the ‘cease and dessist‘ orders and accusations of copyright infringement for they will not stop creativity but will harm the corporations more then they think.
Let us do our art in peace.

I‘m finally back to work on few of my favorite things:logotypes, corporations and research.
As I said in the Previous post I started making a searchable database of logos. I’m adding the different logos, and also trying to do it by groups.
While researching on the Intel Corporation I found that there are a lot of logos for their brands which have big similarities with small changes. So the decision (with the help of my girlfriend) came to make a small poster with all of Intel’s logos.
The poster consists of Intel’s branded logos from the 286 processor appeared in 1982 up to the latest rebranding of their corporate logotype and processors marks. The new logotype mashes Intel’s’ name with the much known “Intel Inside” mark. The rebranding occurred as Intel released Viiv (for entertainment and media PCs) and Core Duo (which is now inside Apple’s new MacBook Pro).

I thought it will be easier with them but YAHOO! Are making it hard. Today Flickr introduced something called Community Guidelines and they have a list of DOs and DON’Ts…
So - Pages that have not enough pictures are not aloud (meaning: no diagrams, no paintings or illustrations) and because Logophile consists of uploaded images which are not mine, they banned my site from their Search section.
It is still possible to get there in a direct link, but it won’t be shown for people from the main page.
So now, for this reason and others, I’m scouting for another system to hold my database.

My next web installment is now online, and again - thanks to Flickr.The new research I have started is an implementation of an idea that I had for quite some time.
Since I started doing Corporate Connection in 2003 I had this idea in my head: How can I search for certain logos and symbols based on thier shapes or colours? How can I know which are the logos that have an orange circle and a blue line? Or a wing?
I wanted to find these possible connections between
similar symbols, and now, with flickr, I can do it. By using their tagging option I can add all the information I want to a certain logo and make it searchable through their engine. Its easy and I couldn’t do it better myself, so I am doing it with them…
I’m collecting the logos and uploading them to a new Flickr account, which I opened especially for this purpose. In addition, I attached to the logos the information that Wikipedia has to offer when available.
I’m still uploading the logos of the most common brands, which will take some time. This is going to be an ongoing research and constantly expanding database. I plan to include the logos of the obscure and unknow brands as well.
I’m sure the results are going to be interesting. I hope you’ll enjoy them as well.

After a long break Corporate Connection is back online. This time on my Flickr page and with the ability to add notes to it. It has been on my mind for some time to design a new, current, version of The Corporate Connection. Now, that Web 2.0 is with us, it might be feasible.
Corporate Connection started in my first year of studies, as a small project to find out which brands were doing animal testings. Slowly it developed into the intricate nature of corporations, brands, consumerisms and the connections between them in about six months of research . As it is constantly evolving and my research is always following the news trails of takeovers and acquisitions more updates are sure to come.

I‘m always on the search for sources of inspiration, but I have to say that it’s not happening a lot lately. They seem to drift away from finding me, and, heck, maybe there are no good sources any more.Last year I was intrigued by Nexus London (and especially Jonas Odell), but soon fed up with it and its style . Then I realized that I’m not the only one it inspires, and not for the better. I guess, one of the main aspects of being inspired is to find something original.
Today I received a link to Pleix Films from my brother. First, after getting to that page, I thought that it’s going to be another collection of some new advertising campaigns, and I chose to start with ‘Beauty Kit’.
True, it was an advertising campaign, but not in the normal sense. it’s a film made to criticise the idea of beauty in eyes of little girls, and how the media is trying to sell it to them.
After that I couldn’t stop and I had to watch all of them.
‘Futureshock: Pride’s Paranoia’, for instance, is a frightening look at the power of consumerism (with hints from King Kong, Transformers and John Carpenter’s They Live); ‘Birds’ (pictured) is a beautyfully shot and obscure film about flying (jumping?) dogs; and after watching ‘E-Baby’ I almost cried for the sad possibilities of virtual worlds. On the other hand, ‘Netlag’ made me reproach myself for not thinking about that idea myslef: loads of small video streams from different places of the world.
Now I feel like creating some artwork, and this feeling is, for sure, the best proof for a good source of inspiration.

I added the production photo set of our Super 16mm film of ‘Dr Phallison’s Theatrics’. The film was made in June 2006 and was filmed in a secret place under the railway tracks of the olde Shoreditch station.

But it seems that now an new route has been made. The creative mind in me has came to a settelment with the critic.
The critic is smiling to himslef. He knows that it is not for long. When the time is needed he will be back.

]]>As most of the creative people working for their living (and not creating for the sake of the creation) will agree, it is hard to say no for an interesting brief. Hence my problem: I was taking more and more things to deal with.
There was a time when this “escape” was a good practice. When ‘escape’ refers to taking a break from one project in order to rest, and in the break to work on another project. But the time has arrived that my mind cannot stop. There is always something rushing there.

Douglas Adams ones wrote for one of his characters in The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. This is acctually how I feel right now.
Therefore, I’m trying to watch season DVDs like The Office in order to forget about the troubles of my own life.
It helps a lot and I just hope not to work in an office environment in my life. It also makes a bit of annoyance when I know that I’m suppose to be at the real office for at least two days a week, like I promised.
